The Empire Strikes Back is the easily the best Star Wars movie.
This is mainly due to the amazing script by Lawrence Kasdan. It presents the movie in a much darker context than its predecessor. "The galactic empire is hunting down the rebels" is all you need to know about this movie. You are taken in by the vulnerable yet relatable characters, the overall journey of Luke Skywalker, and the amazing special effects which look better than some sfx in 2014. Need I mention John Williams' musical score?
Dark, moving, and enthralling, Empire" will go down as one of the best movies in history.

I remember seeing this in 1980 and being just amazed. Fast forward to 2012, with all the big budget thrill rides, and yet, The Empire Strikes can still hold its own with any of them.
Being the second part in a three part saga, it was naturally the darkest of the films. But, that does not make it any less a part of film history. It was one of the most successful sequels ever, continuing the story of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. It also included many key points in the story. In this film, Luke Skywalker truly begins his Jedi training, and cuts it short, something that will plague him for years to come. Luke also confronts Darth Vader, and finds out that Vader is his father, the most dramatic moment in the film, and when he loses his hand. Princess Leia and Han Solo finally fall in love, only to be captured and separated when Han is frozen in carbonite. Leia is driven by her love for Han for the next year, unable to let him go. Han is frozen, unable to move, in the clutches of Jabba the Hutt. This is the beginning of a wonderful romance. This movie has done a superb job of continuing the Star Wars saga, and deserves every ounce of praise that has been thrown at it.
